Law Amendment Regarding Associations' Reporting of Members

Law no. 7226 titled as "Law on Making Amendments to Certain Laws" that stipulated making amendments in the Articles 23 and 32 of the Law of Associations with no. 5253 entered into effect after being published on the Official Gazette with date 26th of March 2020. With this amendment, associations were made liable to report their existing members, new members and membership termination actions to the associations department of their association headquarters location within 45 days.

As STGM, we compared the amendment made in the Law of Associations that made reporting of members compulsory with the former provisions, and prepared an information note after evaluation of this comparison in terms of international law. In the information note that focuses on this amendment that is expected to impact on the freedom to organize, various country practices are also discussed as examples.
