Creating Societal Cognitive Resilience Against Information Disorders (RESAID) Within the scope of the project, academics working on information irregularities and resilience are invited to the conference, which will take place on 24-25 May 2025 at Istanbul Bilgi University Santral Istanbul Campus.

The conference will focus on disinformation, fake news, conspiracy theories, political communication, digital rights, cyber security, media literacy, artificial intelligence, algorithms, post-truth, infodemic, human rights, human security, elections and propaganda. The main aim of the conference is to examine the causes, effects and consequences of information irregularities from an interdisciplinary perspective and to discuss methods to combat this problem.

Conference Call for Papers

The current period of multiple crises and the development of digital tools have become increasingly important in the processes of access to and production of information. Oxford Dictionary's choice of ‘post-truth’ in 2016 and ‘brain rot’ in 2024 as the word of the year reflects the conditions of the period we live in and the transformation of the media ecosystem. In particular, the concept of ‘brain rot’ chosen in 2024 is associated with the ways of using social media and the concerns it creates. In this context, it has become more critical than ever to increase individual and social resilience towards media platforms and the concept of truth.

The forms, means, scope and content of misinformation disseminated through traditional and digital media channels are becoming increasingly diverse. Misinformation, spread intentionally or accidentally, transforms social dynamics and negatively affects democratic decision-making processes, especially in interaction with far-right populist discourses, radical actions and polarisation processes. Lack of access to information and reliable sources increases uncertainties, leading to the proliferation of simplistic, exclusionary, securitised and hateful statements. Such discourses negatively affect efforts to build an inclusive social structure and limit the possibilities of ‘living together’.

It is of great importance to address the causes of the spread of information irregularities, different types of misinformation, the individual and social consequences of this phenomenon, the role of media channels and digital platforms, the political, cultural and economic effects of information irregularities and the methods that can be developed against this phenomenon in the light of theoretical and empirical studies.
