About the Program
UNDEF has been established by the Secretariat General of the United Nations to support projects where civil society can make their voice heard, raise human rights, and ensure the participation of all groups in the democratic process. Most of the fund is given to Civil Society Organizations.
Priority Areas
Gender equality, rule of law and human rights, youth, public-civil society relationship, media and freedom of information, election processes.
About Application
It provides funds to CSOs and organizations operating independently of the state, independent and constitutional bodies, global and regional, intergovernmental bodies, organizations, and associations.
Support is provided to projects that will include activities on support for democratic dialogue and constitutional processes, empowerment of civil society and the inclusion of women, citizenship education and voter registration, citizens' access to information, participation rights by supporting civil society, and the rule of law.
The fund is given for 2 years. It grants between 100,000 and 300,000 USD per project. Applications are made in English or French and online. Organizations that pass the pre-application process must complete the full application process 6 weeks after receiving the confirmation e-mail.
