What will we talk about?
As part of the "Friday Meetings", which aims to create a meeting point for civil society that provides an opportunity to listen and exchange views on many topics, from the civil society agenda to ecological agriculture, from Ankara's urban history to artificial intelligence. On Friday, February 23, 2024, we will talk about the International Court of Justice, South Africa's genocide case against Israel, international law and international jurisdiction.
In particular, the case brought by South Africa against Israel, the Advisory Opinion delivered by the Court in 2004 at the request of the United Nations General Assembly, the request for a new Advisory Opinion to the Court in 2022/2023 and the case brought by Palestine against the United States of America have result in various aspects of the Palestinian problem are being addressed before the Court.
In this session, we will examine other disputes and other situations dealt with by the Court (e.g. the developments at the Red Sea) as well as the stance of states (e.g. USA, Germany, Nicaragua) and international organizations (e.g. UN, European Union, Arab League). In this context, we plan to evaluate various aspects of international law and international jurisdiction in the context of current discussions.

Where and when will the Friday meeting take place?
The event will take place on Friday, February 23, 2024, between 15:30-18:00 in our Ankara office.
