You are invited: The Invisible Face of Cities: Where Does Air Pollution Come From?

In the "Urban Talks through the Lens of Research: Air Pollution and Urban Fabric" session organized by the Marmara Municipalities Union, Dr. Derya Arabacı and her advisor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Çağdaş Kuşçu Şimşek, will share the findings of her doctoral thesis titled "Examining the Relationship Between Urban Fabric, Air Pollution, and Local Climate in the Marmara Region and Istanbul." This event will discuss how academic research can contribute to urban management processes. Municipal representatives, urban planners, and all stakeholders interested in environmental policies are invited to join this event.

As cities grow, the relationship between air pollution, local climate changes, and urban density becomes increasingly complex. Declining air quality and increasing thermal stress directly affect the lives of city dwellers. So, how can we better integrate air pollution and local climate dynamics into urban planning? The session, which will revolve around these topics, will cover a range of subjects, from the effects of urban fabric on air pollution and local climate to the relationship between land use and urban density with air pollutants, the environmental consequences of the urban heat island effect, and scientific findings on mitigating this impact.

Date: April 8, 2025, Tuesday, 14:00-15:00
Platform: Zoom
