This time Power Stories is going after "Işığı Bekleyenler" Those Who Wait for the Light

This time we are traveling to Adana for the stories of the new narrators of our Power Stories meetings. On Friday, June 28, 2024, between 18.00 - 21.00 at Adana Metropolitan Municipality Taşköprü Guesthouse, we will listen to stories about how light enters through the cracks.

Why Waiting for the Light?

Leonard Cohen said:  "Forget perfection. There is a crack in everything. That's where the light comes in."

In our meeting, we will listen to four stories touching different stages of life from four women who made their wounds blossom despite troubles, impossibilities and all those who said "that's not how it works". We will witness how light penetrates through the cracks.

We are waiting for civil society workers, volunteers and those who are curious about stories in civil society.

  • Venue: Adana Metropolitan Municipality Taşköprü Guesthouse
  • Date: Friday, June 28, 2024
  • Time 18.00 - 21.00

* Our event is limited to 20 people. Invitation will be sent to the first 20 people for participation.
* We will have refreshments at our event, but travel, food and accommodation belong to our participants.
* Our event is for adult participants. It is not suitable for child participation.

Whose stories will we listen to?

  • Muhal Leventeli İkikardeş: She is a person who has thought about inequalities due to the class she was born into and has made rights advocacy a profession to create a more equal and livable world. While working as a lawyer, she learnt that there are different ways to fight for rights and came to this path through solidarity knitting. She loves her family, she loves her fellow campaigners, whom she considers family. She talks a lot, tells a lot. Her stories are loved so much that her friends never silence her. That's why she keeps on telling them.
  • Filiz Sakallı: Realizing her advancing age and what she missed from life, she set out with the idea of "Take the road and the road will appear to you" to travel from village to village with a van full of books and tell fairy tales to women and children, which is her biggest dream. She completed drama leadership and storytelling trainings to achieve her goals. Just when she thought she was ready to move on with her life, she faced the reality of the earthquake. She continues on her way with the aim of reaching more women and children with the work of establishing a story-drama house in Hatay.
  • Derya Altay: A heart traveler... In order to get to know herself, she clings to the red thread of stories and wanders from one land to another, offering the pearls of truth she finds about life to the pockets of those who listen to her stories. Her favorite thing to do in life is to share her experiences of reality.
  • Özlem Arman: In her "Let's Be Happy" project, which she has been implementing for 23 years in İzmir, she organizes various activities for children who are hospitalized in state and university hospitals to ensure they are healthy not only physically but also mentally. She does this with her team of volunteers and meets the needs of both children and their families.

What are Power Stories Meetings?

Power Stories is the name of our meetings where we tell and listen to each other's stories. As civil society workers, volunteers and enthusiasts, we come together for storytelling. In "Power Stories", we listen first-hand to real stories born in different channels of the civic space, think together with the stories of the narrators and talk about how we can move forward together on the challenging paths to change.
