Only 100 thousand of 8.5 million disabled people can contribute to public area. In İstanbul, 38 thousand visually impaired of 40 thousand are cannot be out of home due to insufficient conditions.
Murat Demirok, from Altı Nokta Visually Impaired Association, mentioned that in Turkey, there are 8 million disabled people, and 700 thousand of them are visually impaired. The association has over a thousand members; however, a serious number of visually impaired cannot be reached. Demirok also added that unreached people has an important potential with the example of visually impaired lawyers, engineers, teachers. Most important problem of the disabled people is education and employment, is mentioned. By that problem, the political parties also should consider the disabled rights in policy-making process. Furthermore, architectural structures should reconstruct with regard of disabled rights. According to Demirok, families with disabled children should contribute to civil society organizations and should make proper choices for their rights.
