Sulukule Volunteers Association is looking for its 14th term volunteers

Sulukule Volunteers Association (Sulukule Gönüllüleri Derneği) is looking for volunteers to support them in their work with children, youth and women in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Sulukule Volunteers Association (SGD) has been working with children, youth and women to strengthen their well-being since 2010.

Which activities are in need of volunteers?

  • Art and Sports-Body Movement Based Activities

Using art, rhythm, sports, photography, fairy tales and body movements, it aims to strengthen children's body awareness, communication, team building skills, etc.

  • Youth Activities

These workshops, which are shaped according to the needs and wishes of young people, aim to improve young people's ability to discover and express themselves and their feelings using literature and rap music.

  • Information Workshops

It aims to empower children with one-off workshops on themes such as digital awareness, children's rights, etc.

  • Rest and Recreation Meetings

Activities such as library meetings, movie days, excursions and SuluFest are organized to promote children's right to rest, fun and play.

  • Women's Studies

We carry out academic support activities with women living in Karagümrük and its neighborhoods and aim to empower them on issues such as women's and children's rights.

  • Remote Support

Support is expected for desk work such as literature search, translation and transcription.

What are the duties and responsibilities of an SGD volunteer?

  • Regular participation in workshops,
  • Delivering remote support work in an organized and diligent manner,
  • Working in harmony with the volunteer coordinator and workshop facilitator,
  • Filling in the evaluation forms after the workshop,
  • Attending meetings and trainings to be held regularly every month,
  • Respect the rights-based principles of SGD and pay attention to these principles during work.
  • Complying with the Child Safety Policy procedures and the Basic Ethics and Code of Conduct Document.

What will being an SGD volunteer bring to you?

  • Gain experience working with children, youth and women at risk
  • Workshop facilitation experience,
  • Teamwork and communication skills,
  • Information on the field through trainings and post-workshop meetings
  • Career preparation in fields such as civil society, social work, sociology and psychology

Who Can Apply?

  • Committed to attend the entire face-to-face orientation training,
  • 18-35 years old,
  • Residing in Istanbul (except remote studies)
  • Are willing to work with children and women and want to contribute to awareness and empowerment activities on discrimination, gender, nonviolent communication,
  • Anyone who is committed to fulfill the above duties and responsibilities can apply.

How will the application and evaluation process proceed?

  • Application deadline: October 15, 2024
  • Interviews*: To be determined together with the applicants.
  • Final feedbacks: October 19, 2024
  • Orientation: October 26-27, 2024

*Interviews are for the purpose of getting to know each other in depth. In the evaluation phase; gender balance, motivation, perspective on the concept of rights, regular participation criteria will be taken as basis.
