WRI Turkey is implementing the three-year “Stronger Civil Society for Fair Cities Project” supported by the European Union, starting on February 1, 2024. With the support of the Union of Marmara Municipalities (MBB), this project aims to promote just cities by adopting a more participatory and inclusive approach. The project aims to increase the capacity of civil society organizations (CSOs) and strengthen dialogue and cooperation between CSOs and local governments.
As a result of the analysis and interviews, the districts of Adalar, Arnavutköy, Esenler and Sultanbeyli were selected as pilot areas for the project.
The following activities will be carried out within the scope of the project:
- Needs Analysis Study: Surveys in 4 pilot districts, face-to-face interviews with stakeholders and focus group meetings,
- Social Incubation Program: A program to strengthen the capacities of CSOs,
- Micro Grant Support: Providing a total of €50,000 to at least 5 projects for more equitable and inclusive practices in 4 selected pilot districts,
- Publications: Development of guidance documents such as the Fair Istanbul Report, Local Governments Guide and White Paper.
Free of charge to CSOs that will be included in the Social Incubation
- Program, which is also the subject of this call;
- Face-to-face and online trainings and supporting practices,
- Field visits in Istanbul (experience sharing and learning opportunities),
- Study visits to European Union countries,
- Online seminars (webinars) with experts sharing international examples,
- Mentoring support,
- Micro-grant support will be offered.
Application Requirements
CSOs applying for the program must meet the following conditions:
- Have a non-profit structure (associations, foundations, cooperatives or unincorporated civil initiatives),
- Having conducted studies on the rights of urban groups (elderly, disabled, women, children, youth rights, etc.) within the last 5 years,
- To operate in Sultanbeyli, Adalar, Esenler or Arnavutköy districts or to undertake to work in these districts,
- Identify at least 2 people within the organization who will actively participate in the program,
- To ensure at least 90% participation in the program,
- To complete the field and desk studies within the scope of the program in full and on time.
The program will last for 8 months and a total of 20 people from 10 organizations will be accepted. A second group will be announced later in the project
