The participants of "Power Stories" began to tell their stories in Nevşehir: Is it the things that change when the day comes, or is it the day that comes when the things change?

As part of our Capacity Building Centre for Civil Society project supported by the European Union, "Power Stories" took place on Monday 29 April at the Hamleci Mansion in Nevşehir, where real stories from the civic society space were told first-hand.

On 27 and 28 April 2024, a storytelling workshop was held at the KOAN Academy in Nevşehir with 18 participants and 2 facilitators. Then, on Monday, 29 April 2024, at the storytelling event entitled "Devran Döner Gün Olur" in Hamleci Konağı/Ürgüp, the different stories of four women from the civic space who were confronted with various problems and transformed these difficulties in the public space, met the audience.

We listened to Ayça Yaltı, who said: 'There is a fairground in my head', who advocates for the visibility of the diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and inspires people who are looking for solutions to this problem.

Ayşe Yayla told the story of the resistance of Hamleci Konağı, which has a 200-year history, despite the efforts of unearned income in Ürgüp and the process of the community there to create a community culture of solidarity, from ecology to art.

We heard the story of Keziban Gülen Göz, a woman who had to leave the academy, about the process of founding her own academy (Koan Akademi) based on the question "Is a different kind of education possible?".

Finally, in the story that Özge Çağlar, who works as an expert in the field of humanitarian aid, told about 'Refugee Z', we remembered that we were all immigrants since the earthquakes of 6 February and that when it comes to "power", the greatest power is our "fragility".

What are the "Power Stories"?

To build a possible life, to create change for an equal, fair and free future where we are all included and nature is protected, we come together in a series of meetings, think together and talk about how we can move forward together on the rocky paths that lead to change.

18 participants accepted into the Power Stories study will be divided into groups of two, three and four after receiving training in oral storytelling techniques to tell their own stories more powerfully and effectively, and will meet with their audiences in different provinces of Turkey.
