Our solidarity is growing: Good news from our Antakya office

After the 6 February earthquakes, our STGM Antakya office, which we opened with the aim of increasing the resilience of civil society in Hatay, is frequently visited by civil society organizations in the city. In December and January, we met with representatives of organisations working in different fields. In different meetings, we talked about developing collaborations in line with the needs of CSOs, conducting capacity strengthening activities and working on joint projects.

With whom and what did we talk?

In our meeting with the Human Health Education Foundation, we evaluated projects in the field of health and education and gave information about our grant programmes. We discussed the activities for the maintenance and repair of historical buildings with the Liaison Office of the Grant Programme for the Restoration of Antiquities. In the meeting with the representatives of the Yarın Foundation, which works in the field of disaster counselling, we made plans for the use of our Antakya office for the trainings to be organised by the foundation.

We discussed and evaluated collaborations with the Gender Equality Monitoring Association (CEİD), which works on the rights of the disabled, the elderly and women. We decided to provide venue support for Rimmen Women's Cooperative's soap workshop event. We discussed cooperation opportunities with SENED Association, which provides training to CSOs on project writing and capacity building, to benefit from grant support.

In our meeting with the Association of Social Service Employees (SHAÇD), we discussed the needs of the association on social media management and website setup. We informed the association about the TechSoup platform.

We held a meeting with the Environmental Protection Association, which draws attention to environmental problems in Antakya, on awareness raising activities.

We talked to Hatay Women's Solidarity, which aims to create social spaces for women and children, about the difficulties they face in grant applications. In our meeting with HAGİAD (Hatay Young Business People's Association), we informed them about our activities.

We discussed with Antakya Art Association what we can do to realise their project on Kurtuluş Street. We planned the event to be organised in our STGM Antakya Office with Hasat Association, which organises art festivals with young people. In our meeting with UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund), we agreed to hold the meetings of the women's committees in our office. We held a meeting with Inter Sector Coordination to discuss activities to strengthen cooperation between institutions.

We talked about developing joint projects with Need Map, which organises sports and social activities with children, Nirengi Association and the Foundation for Love and Brotherhood (SEVKAR). We shared information with the representatives of Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts (İKSV) about the Ortaklaşa Project. We provided information about the project on supporting the disaster and risk management capacity of CSOs.

We also participated in meetings of different organisations. We participated in Samandağ Disaster Preparedness Workshop, where we exchanged views on disaster preparedness activities in the region. We also participated in the meeting of CEID, which carries out gender equality monitoring activities. During the meeting, difficulties in accessing public data were brought to the agenda.
