In all activities to ensure that the food and non-food agricultural products that come to our table are available, accessible, healthy, and reliable, we will protect public welfare, the right to life of future generations and all living things, and protect the ecosystem; Turkey Organic Network (TORA), Non-Toxic Tables Pesticide Action Network (Toxic Sofralar Pesticide Action Network) There are also various networks such as ZSPEA).
The Toxic Tables Pesticide Action Network, which was established by more than 100 non-governmental organizations and civil initiatives that came together in 2019 with the slogan "Non-Toxic Tables are Possible", achieved significant success with the Non-Toxic Campaign, which they addressed the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and gathered more than 160 thousand signatures. . While the issue of pesticides (pesticides), which are extremely harmful to human health, natural assets and biodiversity, was brought to the agenda of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey 4 times in 2020, with the influence of the lobbying activities of the Network, the Ministry opened 41 pesticide active substances to view and banned 25 active substances, 7 of them. also brought limitations. Apart from these, evaluations are still made by different countries regarding the use of many pesticides in terms of their effects on the environment, human and animal health.
Desiring the continuity of cooperation, non-governmental organizations and civil initiatives came together in February 2020 and decided to establish the Non-Toxic Tables Platform for a broader purpose that puts food safety at the center. The Platform, which will continue to work through its networks and working groups, will continue to inform the public, lobby, and advocacy activities on the harms and alternatives of pesticides in the coming period. In addition, it is planned to carry out studies on many subjects such as organic agriculture, food communities, dissemination of nature-friendly beekeeping, promotion and dissemination of heirloom/local seeds, restorative agriculture, agroecology for access to healthy food.
One of the important projects supported by the Platform is the “Towards Non-Toxic Cities” Project. Pesticides, that is, agricultural poisons and biocidal products with the same active/active substances, are unfortunately used in many places in cities, from schools to parks and gardens, from sites to roadsides and empty lands, and threaten our health.
Increasing global disasters such as the coronavirus epidemic and the climate crisis are trying to tell us that life on the planet is a whole and can only be sustained as a whole. Rapid changes in climate, disasters, hunger, epidemics, migrations, increasing problems regarding the availability and accessibility of food, rapidly disappearing biodiversity and polluted nature show us that a life in harmony with nature is inevitable for our survival in the future. Non-Toxic Tables Platform will continue to work in the upcoming period with the principles that are human-centered and not growth-oriented but target the sustainability of life on the planet as a whole.
