                                                               Job Title: Project Coordinator

Background: Since December 2011, TUSEV has been carrying out ‘Philanthropy Infrastructure Development Project in Turkey’ with a co-funding from C.S Mott Foundation and Turkish Philanthropy Funds. The aim of the project is to encourage organized philanthropy, developing a ‘mass’ giving culture for social good and generate support mechanisms for philanthropy in Turkey. The major deliverables of the first phase of the project were a series handbooks and collections of best practices to guide giving strategies of these groups, a feasibility study conducted to identify the potential for future community foundations and a website developed as the one stop information centre for givers. The second phase of the project, starting from September 2013, will target same groups, including individual donors, corporate funders, foundations and local communities, though, with an extended scope for fostering donor education and learning platforms.

Job Purpose: The Project Coordinator is responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation evaluation, and reporting of all activities in accordance with the Philanthropy Infrastructure Development Project. This position reports to the Program Director. The Project Coordinator works closely with the Secretary General and staff, the Board of Directors, with all project stakeholders, consultants, and funders.

Major Responsibilities:

Work with the Program Director to

* provide individual, tailored services to philanthropists – exchanges with peers, practical support and debriefing for the initiatives they undertake; partner due diligence, development of grantmaking strategies, contract development, corporate volunteer program design, monitoring and evaluation, communications; 

* convene meetings of philanthropists to provide a forum for learning and support;
* organize groups of donors on the giving circle model;
* run annual philanthropy awards and donors lists to increase visibility and recognition for philanthropy;
* support the development of local philanthropic institutions;
* identify and disseminate best practices in philanthropy;
* support research and publications on philanthropy;
* facilitate coordination between donors and NGOs through site visits, exposure to successful development projects, site visits, match-ups;
* provide reporting and capacity building services for donors’ NGO partners;
* contribute to TUSEV’s ongoing strategic development and learning processes; and
* prepare daily/weekly/monthly project activity reports
Work with the Communications Coordinator to
* develop and implement communication campaign; and
* manage the organization of events (selection of venue, invitation of speakers, registrations, sponsoring, etc)

Work with the Legal Expert to

* ease legislation governing the setting up of philanthropic funds;
* advocate for tax incentives; and
* inform donors about legal and tax related consequences of their giving

Work with the Project Assistant to

* update the project website and generate periodic e-newsletters; and
* search emerging trends in philanthropy

Position Requirements:

  • A university degree in a related field
  • At least 4 years of experience implementing projects in the non-profit sector
  • Extensive and deep knowledge of the non-profit sector in Turkey and philanthropy market in the world
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and donor reporting
  • Strong ability to network and establish collaborative relationships with a range of actors
  • Prior experience in building and strengthening working relationships with donors
  • Willingness and ability to travel
  • Experience in conducting analysis and/or research on philanthropy
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate fluently and articulately in English and Turkish
  • A high degree of computer literacy, including word processing and Web skills.
  • Capacity to appropriately plan within a limited budget and prioritize and to manage multiple, sometimes competing demands efficiently in a challenging, fast-paced environment is required.

Term and Conditions

Employment status: Full-time
Contract duration: 24 months
Location: Istanbul, Turkey
