About Sphere and the Sphere Handbook
The Sphere movement was initiated in 1997 by a group of humanitarian professionals aiming to improve the quality of humanitarian aid during disaster interventions. Today, Sphere is a global community that brings together and empowers practitioners to enhance the quality and accountability of humanitarian aid. The Sphere Standards have become a primary reference tool for humanitarian aid standards for national and international NGOs, volunteers, UN agencies, governments, donors, the private sector, and many others.
The Sphere Handbook, Sphere's most significant publication, is one of the most widely known and internationally accepted sets of common principles and universal minimum standards for humanitarian aid interventions.
