Purposes and the Way of Work
The goals of the Platform are as follows:
- Eliminating poverty and social exclusion,
- Preventing all kinds of discrimination and promoting equality for all,
- Establishing equality between women and men in all areas of life,
- Supporting participatory democracy,
- Social NGOs' involvement in civil dialogue structured at EU level,
- Participation of people exposed or under the risk of exposure to poverty, exclusion and discrimination in decision-making processes that affect them.
Members of the Platform insist that NGOs play a key role in protecting and promoting human rights and promoting an equitable society based on everyone's participation. It tries to develop and strengthen the civil dialogue between European social NGOs and European Union institutions.
Membership and Membership Requirements
The Platform has grown and become active since its establishment in 1995. It represents more than 2800 national organizations, associations and other volunteer groups at local, regional and national level in each EU member state, covering a wide spectrum of the social civil society sector in the European Union.
These include women's organizations, older people, people with disabilities, people affected by poverty, youth, children and families, gay and lesbian and transsexuals. Among the member organizations, there are also campaigns on issues such as social justice, homelessness, lifelong learning, health and reproductive rights or racism.
There are two types of member groups on the Platform as full members and partner members.
