IDA is an international network structure representing 600 million individuals with more than 1000 member organizations in more than 200 countries and regions around the world. IDA has been established in 1999 to act as the spokesperson of the international disability movement on global policies and to facilitate cooperation and information sharing in international disabled organizations, especially multilateral organizations.

- To determine common positions on disability and to conduct lobbying activities in the United Nations institutions through the positions agreed in cooperation with the members,
- To encourage international disability rights organizations to work actively in cooperation at international, regional and local levels,
- To develop common strategies and inclusive positions on issues affecting persons with disabilities,
- To ensure the participation of people with disabilities in global policies,
- To strengthen the existing networks in which International Disability Rights organizations actively operate.
