CIVICUS World Alliance for Citizen Participation is an international association that works to develop and support civic activism and civil society around the world, especially in countries where participatory democracy and the freedom of association of citizens are threatened. It has been serving for more than ten years with more than 3600 members in approximately 175 countries of the world.

Purposes and the Way of Work

CIVICUS operates worldwide for the following purposes in line with the principles of justice and equality, reciprocity, information and information, principled courage:

Existence as citizens - to promote the rights of citizens to organize and to work together towards the defined goals for the well-being of society.
Expressing oneself as citizens - to improve the effectiveness and administration of non-governmental organizations and to increase the capacity of these organizations to determine and achieve their individual and collective goals.
Participation in society as citizens - to increase the interaction between civil society and other institutions in order to enable citizens to have their voices heard in social life.

For these purposes, CIVICUS creates various information and analysis under the following titles and programs:

CIVICUS Gender Equality Policy
CIVICUS World Congress Programme

In addition to these, there are Local Associations, Membership Group and Youth Working Group. CIVICUS publishes various publications in line with its goals and visions: CIVICUS Brochure, e-CIVICUS online newsletter and annual reports.

Membership and Membership Requirements

NGOs, business organizations dealing with social issues and citizens interested in civil society can become members of CIVICUS.
