The Black Sea NGO Network (BSNN)

BSNN is an independent non-political, non-governmental, non-profit and voluntary network formed by the NGOs of six Black Sea countries (Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine). Although it was established in 1998, it has more than 60 members today.

Purposes and the Way of Work

  • To develop an effective structure, mechanisms and practices for local, national and international authorities and other institutions that are involved in decision-making processes regarding the sustainable development of the Black Sea and the regions surrounding the Black Sea, which they can use in advocacy and lobbying activities,
  • To determine the environmental problems and priorities of the Black Sea,
  • To raise awareness on environmental and social issues, to enable social participation at all levels of decision-making processes regarding the Black Sea to be provided and developed,
  • To produce mechanisms to ensure that the capacity of network members is increased and those members' interests are protected for these purposes.

Membership Criteria

Bulgarian, Georgian, Romanian, Russian, Turkish and Ukrainian NGOs that adopt the BSSN views, mission and objectives and approve the BSSN charter can become members. In order to apply for membership, organizations in the aforementioned countries must apply to the BSSN board with a cover letter stating that they accept the views, mission and objectives of the BSSN and approve the BSSN statute and pay the membership fee.
