Last application date for the 2nd term of the Minority Rights Academy: April 10th!

After successfully completing its first round in 2024, the application process for the second round of the HDV Minority Rights Academy has started! The program aims to discuss minority rights efforts in Turkey and worldwide, raise awareness, and contribute to developing solution proposals.

The curriculum of the Minority Rights Academy spans a wide range of topics, from the definition and transformation of the concept of minorities, to the legal regulations regarding minorities at international and national levels, the political history of minorities in Turkey, and the human rights violations faced in practice. The program also covers comparative studies from different countries and advocacy methods.

Who can join the Academy?

  • Anyone interested in minority rights and advocacy, and who wishes to work in this field, can apply to the Academy.
  • Priority will be given to NGO workers, academics, lawyers, media and public sector employees, and individuals from minority groups who have worked in the field of minority rights.
  • Applicants must hold at least a bachelor's degree.
  • Since there will be no simultaneous translation support for the Turkish seminars, participants must be proficient in Turkish.

What supports are provided throughout the Academy program?

  • The program is free of charge and limited to 20 participants.
  • Accommodation and transportation costs for participants coming from outside Istanbul will be covered.
  • Program materials will be provided digitally to participants.
  • Simultaneous translation will be provided for English-language seminars (Turkish-English and English-Turkish). However, no simultaneous translation will be provided for Turkish-language seminars.

Since the academy program comprises subjects that complement each other, it requires regular participation. Participants who complete the program will be given a participation certificate by the Hrant Dink Foundation. Participants are expected to participate fully in the program and complete various projects during the academy process to receive the certificate. The in-person sessions of the academy will take place at the Hrant Dink Foundation’s Anarad Hığutyun Building in Istanbul from May 23 to May 26, 2025.
