The guide addresses the human rights impacts of natural disasters and how to implement a human rights-based approach in disaster situations.
In the guide titled "IASC Operational Guidelines for the Protection of People in Natural Disaster Situations", the principles related to the protection of people from natural disasters are addressed in 4 groups. These groups are as follows;
- Protection of life, personal safety and physical integrity and their connections,
- Protection of the rights to food, health, shelter and education,
- Protection of the rights to housing, land and property, livelihood, and secondary and higher education,
- Protection of the rights to documentation, freedom of movement, restoration of family ties, expression, and elections.
The guide was translated by our Policy Monitoring Specialist, Hakan Ataman, as part of the "Monitoring of Freedom of Association Project", which we carried out jointly with TÜSEV with financial support of the European Union.
