How does the Cooperation between the Municipalities and Civil Society Take Place?

While local government has long been one of the indispensable concepts of democratization, the democratization of urban government is becoming even more important as almost all environmental, economic, political, and social problems in the world have become urban problems.

For a democratic local government, it is expected that all stakeholders of the city are involved in the city government. At this point, one of the issues that will strengthen local democracy is the development and implementation of cooperation between municipalities and civil society.

TESEV has published a report on how to ensure cooperation between municipalities and civil society for local democracy as part of the “Empowering Civil Society for a More Democratic Local Governance Project”.

The report prepared by Itır Akdoğan, entitled "Cooperation between Municipalities and Civil Society for Local Democracy," discusses the legal framework for cooperation between municipalities and public civil society, the political path in development plans, and the difficulties in implementation. The report also includes the application of MoDeL, which was developed as part of the TESEV project "Empowering Civil Society for a More Democratic Local Governance" under the European Union's Partnerships and Networks for Enhancing Cooperation Between the Public Sector and CSOs program, and suggestions for strengthening cooperation between municipalities and civil society.
