"Education of the Visually Impaired During the Epidemic Process" Document from EGED

The Association for the Visually Impaired in Education (EGED) published a document titled "Education of the Visually Impaired in the Epidemic Process".

In the document prepared by the EGED Education Commission, there are recommendations on how teachers with visually impaired students can take measures in distance education and face-to-face education.

Some of the suggestions are as follows:

  • Remember that your visually impaired student is among the students who follow your live lecture from a distance. If these students encounter accessibility problems in online environments where live course applications are performed and cannot receive the necessary support, they may distance themselves from education. Therefore, be in constant communication with your visually impaired student.
  • Make sure that the materials used for disinfection in face-to-face education are easily accessible for your visually impaired students. If possible, do not relocate or notify your student.
  • If you need to help your student to reach a place or find an object, you can use clockwise, natural directions such as north, south, spatial expressions such as "above", "below", "below", "above".
