A mapping study on institutions working in the field of non-discrimination was carried out by the Istanbul Bilgi University Human Rights Law Application and Research Center. The mapping study was carried out by Expert Researcher Sevinç Eryılmaz Dilek, member of the Human Rights Law Practice and Research Center, and Ulaş Karan, Research Assistant at the Faculty of Law, within the scope of the Anti-Discrimination in Turkey through Documentation and Reporting Project carried out between February 2009 and March 2011. The Mapping Study Report, first published in July 2009, was updated taking into account the surveys submitted at later dates and was reprinted in December 2010.

The study aims to fight against discrimination based on race/ethnicity, religion/belief, disability, sexual orientation/gender identity, xenophobia, racist, homophobic and transphobic acts, hate speech, hate crimes, anti-Christianity, and anti-Semitism. It was the mapping of major NGOs, civic initiatives, and trade unions. The study aimed to profile these institutions, to identify their expertise in this field, and to identify the difficulties and needs they face in the fight against discrimination, as well as to identify the training needs for monitoring, documenting, and reporting cases of discrimination.

As a result of filling out the questionnaire forms prepared by the researchers who prepared the report by the relevant institutions (NGOs, trade unions, and civil initiatives), the information collected was compiled and analyzed, and both a database was created and an analytical evaluation was made in the light of this information. The questionnaires were shared with 179 NGOs, trade unions, and civil initiatives, as a result, 75 institutions contributed to the study by answering the questionnaire.
