What does the program aim for?
DEMOS Youth Program aims to actively involve young people in the work of DEMOS and engage them in peace activism by promoting a culture of peace, open dialogue and civic responsibility.
The program is structured through a series of activities (orientation meeting, workshops, film screenings, etc.):
- Create safe spaces where young people can develop a relationship with DEMOS,
- To spread knowledge and concepts of peace work among young people
- It will contribute to the development of mutual understanding and cooperation between young people from different backgrounds.
What does the program include?
The DEMOS Youth Program consists of activities that will start in June and continue until the beginning of July.
- Orientation Meeting: We will organize a structured orientation meeting as the opening event of the program. In this meeting, the vision and mission of DEMOS, its activities, organizational structure and volunteering areas will be introduced to the participants. In this meeting where we get to know each other, we will not neglect to have a pleasant time together. (Foreseen date: Saturday, June 8)
- Activism 101 Workshop: With the Activism 101 Workshop, we aim to create an interactive learning space where we discuss together what activism is, how it is done and the current activism fields in Turkey. (Foreseen date: Sunday, June 9)
- Tea and Talk Meetings: We will chat a lot, get to know each other closely and share our ideas about peace with the tea&talk meetings we will hold on two different dates we have determined together. (Wednesday, June 12 - July 3)
- Introduction to Peace Studies: Concepts, Definitions and Key Debates Workshop: The workshop aims to provide participants with a solid foundation in peace studies. The workshop will focus on introducing peace concepts, understanding definitions and explaining the main debates in the peace literature. (Foreseen date: Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30)
- Film Screening and Conversation: This event is designed to bring participants together with art through films dealing with the topic of dealing with the past. The film screening aims to encourage participants to see and reflect on different aspects of dealing with the past from different perspectives. The discussion will provide an opportunity to delve deeper into the content and themes of the film. (Foreseen date: Wednesday, June 26)
- Webinars: We will organize two webinars with experts in two different themes. We will decide the content of the webinars together with the participants. (Foreseen date: July-August)
• Physical activities will take place at DEMOS office in Ankara.
• The program is only open to participants in Ankara.
• The detailed program including the flow will be shared with the participants later.
• At the end of the program, participants in all sessions will receive a certificate of participation.
