Monday, December 20, Istanbul - The second interim decision was issued in the lawsuit filed by the Vegan Association Turkey (TVD) on November 24 against the hunting tender of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry covering the provinces of Konya and Karaman.
Konya 1st Administrative Court once again ruled in favor of the endangered Anatolian wild sheep (Ovis gmelini anatolica) and the wild goats (Capra aegagrus), which are also in danger of extinction, and that the previous stay of execution decision was made. ordered the continuation.
With this decision, the ban on hunting animals will continue until the trial is concluded.
Court found ministry reports incomplete and contradictory
Following the court's decision to stay the execution in November, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry sent a defense text to the court in which it explained the necessity of hunting. The Konya 1st Administrative Court, which decided to continue the stay of execution because it found this defense insufficient, stated that this time it expects comprehensive scientific reports and bases on the quota determination criteria, the carrying capacity of the hunting areas, animal density, population growth and dynamics.
The court also requested the ministry to explain in detail the discrepancies and discrepancies between the determined hunting quotas and the quotas announced in the tenders.
Call from associations to attend the trial
A hearing date was set for January 17, 2022 for the first time for the case in which the Animal Justice Association (HAD) and the Animal Rights and Ethics Association applied for intervention.
Intervening associations, together with TVD, called on nature and animal rights defenders on social media to come together and meet in Konya on the day of the hearing so that the final decision on the hunting auctions planned in Konya-Karaman provinces will be cancelled.
The hearing, which will be held on January 17, will determine the fate of 7 Anatolian wild sheep and 3 wild goats, which are planned to be killed by hunters through hunting agencies until March 31, 2022.
Cover of the massacre: "Harvest report, rural development, contribution and preventive veterinary medicine"
Following the stay of execution decision in November, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry objected to the decision and tried to justify the claim that hunting massacre was necessary under the name of "Harvest Report", and even intervened in the case file on the grounds that "forest villagers" and the hunting companies called Hedef Hunting Tourism and Alfa Safari Tourism would suffer economic losses. He also added his applications.
In addition, the ministry reiterated its claim in the case of TVD against the killing of red deer in Bolu, in the case of which a stay of execution decision was taken, and claimed that hunting activities should be considered as a "protective veterinary practice".
At the same time, in his petition for the continuation of the hunt, he claimed that the animal rights associations had no interest and had no capacity to file a lawsuit, and demanded the rejection of the case and their involvement "in terms of driver's license".
Within the scope of hunting tourism tenders opened and allowed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the right to life of Anatolian wild sheep was put out to tender for a minimum of 153 thousand 900 TL and a maximum of 157 thousand 700 TL per individual, while at least 9 thousand for each of the wild goats. A price of 300 TL was determined.
